Course overview

The SSI Wreck Diving specialty on Tioman teaches you to explore sunken ships and structures with proper planning and technique. With both old and new wrecks scattered among the island's reefs, the specialty dives give you genuine wrecks to survey, navigate and map as you learn the skills of safe wreck exploration.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and execute dives on wrecks safely
• Survey, map and navigate around a wreck
• Assess wreck hazards including entanglement and silt
• Use reels and guidelines for orientation
• Manage air, light and buoyancy near structures
• Understand wreck conservation and responsible diving

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent
• Deep Diving specialty recommended for deeper wrecks
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Survey and navigation

   Academic review, then dives covering wreck survey, mapping and safe exterior navigation.
2. Day2
   Lines and exploration

   Further dives practising reel and guideline technique on a Tioman wreck, then certify.
