Frequently asked questions
Prerequisite?
SSI Advanced Open Water + Navigation strongly recommended. Age 15+.
How fast?
Recreational DPVs cruise at 30–60m/min — about 4× a normal swim. Speed eats gas faster though, so good gas planning is the core skill.
Do I need to bring my own DPV?
No — DPVs are included. Costly to own (₹80K+) so most divers rent at the dive site for occasional use.
What if my DPV fails mid-dive?
Tow procedure: your buddy clips on, you both swim back. Drilled multiple times during the course — when it happens for real, it's a 5-minute issue, not an emergency.
Is this useful for normal recreational dives?
On large sites (Maldives atoll, Sail Rock, Daymaniyat) DPVs let you cover ground in 30 minutes that a swimmer takes 90. Once you've done it, you don't go back.
Can I take a DPV on a liveaboard?
Some liveaboards allow it (Maldives, Red Sea), some don't. Ask before booking. The cert is what gets you in the door.
