Where will I use this skill?
Maldives atoll passes, Andaman drift sites, Komodo, Sail Rock — anywhere with strong tidal flow. Without this skill you can't safely dive those sites.
Prerequisite?
SSI Advanced Open Water (or 10+ logged dives). Age 12+.
Is drift diving safe?
With training and proper SMB, yes. Without — divers get separated from their boat at unpredictable surfacing points. This course is exactly the training.
What's an SMB?
Surface Marker Buoy — a tube you inflate at depth so the boat can spot you. Standard kit for any drift dive worldwide. We teach proper deployment from 5–10m.
How rough are the sites in Goa?
Goa is calm-water mostly — we use mild drift sites for the course. The skills transfer to harder destinations once certified.
What's the difference between drift and current diving?
Drift = predictable horizontal flow you ride along. Current = variable, sometimes vertical. This cert covers both — you'll be able to read site briefings (e.g. 'mild drift, slack tide window 11–11:30') and dive safely.
