"Booked it on impulse, glad I did. The pace was right, the dives were memorable, and the cert is internationally recognised — I've used it on three trips since."

Frequently asked questions
Prerequisite?
SSI Open Water + Advanced + Deep + 50+ logged dives + medical clearance. Age 18+. Try SCR credit recommended (not required).
Is this hard?
Yes — rebreather diving has a steeper learning curve than open-circuit. The reward is silent immersion in marine life and bottom times of 90+ min.
How does it differ from CCR?
SCR (semi-closed) vents some gas — simpler, more forgiving, recreational range. CCR (closed-circuit) is the full tech-diving rig — different cert path entirely.
Can I rent rebreathers everywhere?
Selected dive shops worldwide stock Mares Horizon rentals — popular destinations: Maldives, Egypt, Indonesia. Always confirm before booking.
Can I dive solo on this?
With buddy yes; true solo requires Solo Diver cert. Most experienced rebreather divers buddy-dive for safety regardless.
Can I take the Mares Horizon on flights?
Yes — most airlines accept it as scuba equipment (declare CO₂ scrubber canisters). Check airline rules before flying. Many international rebreather travellers ship the unit + carry the canister separately.
