Why is this useful?
Tables are obsolete on real dives. A computer tracks your actual depth/time profile and adjusts no-deco limits live — you safely get more bottom time than tables ever allow.
Prerequisite?
SSI Open Water or equivalent. Age 10+.
Do I need my own computer?
No — rental computers are included for the course. If you continue diving, a personal computer is the most worthwhile gear investment after a regulator.
Which computer should I buy?
For ₹15K–25K: Mares Smart, Suunto Zoop. For ₹40K+: Garmin Descent, Shearwater Peregrine. Your instructor will recommend based on your dive style.
Is this part of the Divemaster Bundle?
Yes — Computer Diving and Science of Diving are both included free in the SSI Divemaster Bundle. Buying standalone makes sense if you're not on the Pro path.
What if my computer fails mid-dive?
Drilled in the course — switch to your buddy's computer for the ascent, or use the contingency tables you carry on your slate. Conservative ascent rate, end the dive. We practice this scenario at the end of dive 2.
