Frequently asked questions
Prerequisite?
SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent entry-level cert from any internationally recognised agency). Junior Open Water can do Junior Advanced (depth limited to 21m).
Which 3 specialties should I pick?
Goa-favourites: Wreck (Suzy's Wreck is in our backyard), Perfect Buoyancy (saves air on every future dive), Nitrox (longer bottom times). Your instructor will recommend based on conditions.
Do the specialty dives count as full specialty certs?
They count as 1 of the typical 2 dives for each specialty. To upgrade to a full Specialty cert later, you do 1–2 more dives in that area — no need to redo theory.
What's the depth limit?
30m for Adult Advanced; 21m for Junior (10–14 years).
Does this expire?
No — like all SSI certs, valid for life.
Should I do Advanced or just go straight to individual specialties?
Advanced is the smarter buy if you want 2+ specialties — you get 5 specialty intros bundled at less than the cost of 2 standalone specialties. Plus the cert is required for Deep, Wreck, and many specialty add-ons.
