Course overview

SSI Scuba Diver is a shorter entry-level certification, ideal if time is limited, qualifying you to dive to 12 metres under the guidance of an SSI professional. You train in the calm waters off Nilaveli and on the reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park, completing the first part of the Open Water programme with the option to upgrade later.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, check and use scuba equipment
• Perform essential safety and water skills
• Equalise, clear your mask and recover the regulator
• Control basic buoyancy
• Plan a simple dive with a buddy and professional
• Dive to 12 metres under professional guidance

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• Able to swim and comfortable in the water
• Reasonable physical health (medical questionnaire applies)
• No prior certification required

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & confined water

   Work through the first digital academics and confined-water skills in the calm shallows off Nilaveli.
2. Day2
   Open-water dives & certification

   Complete the two open-water dives to 12 metres on the Pigeon Island reefs and certify as an SSI Scuba Diver.
