Course overview

Learn to anticipate, prevent and manage dive emergencies with the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course at Nusa Penida. Practising rescue scenarios against Nusa Penida's drift currents and cold thermoclines makes the stress-recognition and self-rescue lessons especially real, giving you the awareness to look after yourself and your buddy. It is a confidence-transforming step and a prerequisite for SSI leadership training.

What you’ll learn

• Identify and defuse diver stress before it escalates
• Perform self-rescue and assist tired or panicked divers
• Search for, surface and tow an unresponsive diver
• Deliver in-water rescue breaths and shore or boat exits
• Use emergency oxygen and coordinate a response plan
• Apply strong buddy awareness in current and surf

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior) or 15 for Diver Stress & Rescue
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent, with Navigation experience
• Current React Right or equivalent CPR, first-aid and oxygen training
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & React Right

   Complete the SSI digital academics and, if needed, the React Right first-aid and oxygen course.
2. Day2
   Rescue skills

   Practise stress recognition and rescue techniques in sheltered water at a calm site such as Sampalan.
3. Day3
   Scenarios

   Run full rescue scenarios in open water, applying your response in mild current.
