Course overview

Sharpen your ability to handle dive emergencies with the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course at Netrani Island on Karnataka's Murdeshwar coast. Through SSI's scenario-driven training you learn to spot stress early, prevent accidents and rescue divers in trouble, practising on the boat dives out to Netrani's reef. You earn the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue certification, an essential step toward the Divemaster rating.

What you’ll learn

• Identify the early signs of diver stress and intervene before it becomes an emergency
• Assist a panicked or tired diver at the surface
• Locate, surface and tow an unresponsive diver
• Provide in-water rescue breaths and manage an exit
• Build and run an emergency action plan from the dive boat
• Increase your own comfort, awareness and self-rescue ability

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• SSI Advanced Adventurer (or equivalent) with navigation experience, or higher
• Current first aid and CPR training (SSI React Right or equivalent)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician where required

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Stress recognition & self-rescue

   Study stress recognition through the SSI platform and practise self-rescue and surface assists near shore.
2. Day2
   Rescue exercises

   Work through the in-water rescue and stress-management drills step by step.
3. Day3
   Open-water scenarios

   Run full rescue scenarios on boat dives to Netrani Island and complete the certification.
