Course overview

Become a more confident, capable diver with the PADI Rescue Diver course at Netrani Island off the Karnataka coast. Working from the boats that run out to Netrani's reef, you learn to anticipate, prevent and manage dive emergencies, from tired divers at the surface to unresponsive divers underwater. You finish certified as a PADI Rescue Diver, a key milestone on the path toward Divemaster.

What you’ll learn

• Recognise and prevent dive problems before they escalate
• Manage a tired, panicked or distressed diver at the surface
• Search for, surface and tow an unresponsive diver
• Provide in-water rescue breaths and exit an injured diver from the water
• Run an emergency action plan and coordinate a response from the boat
• Improve your self-rescue and situational awareness on every dive

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior Rescue Diver)
• PADI Adventure Diver or higher (with the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive) or equivalent
• Emergency First Response primary and secondary care within the past 24 months
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician where required

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Rescue theory & self-rescue

   Complete the knowledge reviews and practise self-rescue and tired-diver skills near shore.
2. Day2
   Rescue skill exercises

   Work through the ten rescue exercises, from panicked-diver response to surfacing an unresponsive diver.
3. Day3
   Open-water scenarios

   Run the two full rescue scenarios on boat dives to Netrani Island and complete your certification.
