Course overview

Learn to prevent, recognise and manage dive emergencies with the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course in Fiji's Pacific Harbour. Practising on warm 24-30C reef sites around Beqa Lagoon, you master stress recognition, surface and underwater rescues, and accident management, building real composure under pressure. It is a key step toward the SSI leadership ratings.

What you’ll learn

• Identify and defuse diver stress before it escalates
• Perform self-rescue and assist a struggling diver at the surface
• Recover and tow an unresponsive diver and provide in-water rescue breaths
• Run a missing-diver search pattern
• Manage a simulated dive accident and administer emergency oxygen
• Build and use a dive-emergency action plan

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior) or 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent, plus the Navigation specialty
• Current first-aid, CPR and oxygen-provider training (or combined with the course)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician where required

1. Day1
   Theory & rescue skills

   Review the SSI academics then practise stress recognition, tows and self-rescue in calm water.
2. Day2
   Scenarios & assessment

   Complete missing-diver and unresponsive-diver scenarios on a Beqa Lagoon reef and the final evaluation.
