Course overview

Build the skills to prevent and manage diving emergencies with the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course in Ambon on the Banda Sea. Through stress-recognition and rescue scenarios staged in calm Ambon Bay you learn to handle panicked, tired and unresponsive divers — valuable judgement for the region's warm water and occasional currents.

What you’ll learn

• Identify and defuse diver stress early
• Carry out self-rescue and assist a struggling diver
• Locate, surface and tow an unresponsive diver
• Deliver in-water rescue breaths and manage an exit
• Plan and lead a coordinated emergency response
• Apply oxygen and first aid in a dive emergency

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (junior) / 15 for full certification
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent, including a navigation dive
• SSI React Right (or recognised first-aid, CPR and oxygen provider training)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & React Right

   Complete the MySSI academics and, if needed, the React Right first-aid, CPR and oxygen modules.
2. Day2
   Rescue skills

   Drill stress-recognition and rescue exercises in the sheltered shallows of Ambon Bay.
3. Day3
   Scenarios & certification

   Run combined rescue scenarios on a local reef, then debrief and certify.
