Course overview

Become a certified diver with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Port Blair, the gateway to the Andamans. Working through SSI's flexible digital learning, you build skills in confined water then complete four open-water training dives on the calm reefs around Chidiyatapu and the Andaman Sea, qualifying you to dive to 18 metres worldwide. No previous experience is required to start.

What you’ll learn

• Set up and use scuba equipment confidently
• Breathe and move comfortably underwater
• Clear your mask and recover your regulator
• Manage buoyancy and ascend safely
• Plan dives with a computer or tables
• Handle common underwater situations

Prerequisites

• No prior experience required
• Minimum age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver 10-14)
• Able to swim and float/tread water comfortably
• Diver medical questionnaire (physician sign-off if flagged)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory & confined water

   Work through the SSI digital academics and start confined-water skills in shallow, controlled water.
2. Day2
   Skills & first open-water dives

   Finish confined-water training and make your first open-water dives near Chidiyatapu.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives & certification

   Complete the remaining open-water dives in the Andaman Sea and certify as an SSI Open Water Diver.
