Course overview

Earn your full SSI Open Water Diver certification on Grand Cayman, qualifying you to dive independently to 18 metres in some of the clearest, warmest water on earth. Through the SSI digital learning platform, pool or confined-water skills and four open-water dives on the island's calm reefs, you build the skills and confidence to dive worldwide. The gentle conditions and outstanding visibility make it an ideal place to begin.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use and care for scuba equipment
• Breathe, move and signal underwater
• Clear the mask, recover the regulator and share air
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and controlled ascents
• Plan dives with a computer or tables
• Dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres

Prerequisites

• No prior scuba certification required
• Minimum age 10
• Able to swim and float comfortably
• Complete the diver medical questionnaire (clearance if indicated)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory and confined water

   Complete the SSI digital academics and core skills in calm, shallow water near George Town.
2. Day2
   First open-water dives

   Make your first two training dives on a gentle Cayman reef, applying your skills in open water.
3. Day3
   Final dives and certification

   Complete the final two open-water dives, pass the assessment and earn your SSI Open Water Diver certification.
