Course overview

Earn your full diving certification with the SSI Open Water Diver course in Djibouti, a globally recognised qualification gained on the calm Gulf of Tadjoura where the Red Sea opens to the Indian Ocean. Through SSI's flexible digital learning, confined-water sessions and four open-water dives you learn to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres, ready to explore the reefs and walls of this rarely-crowded Red Sea destination.

What you’ll learn

• Set up, use, maintain and stow scuba equipment
• Master core skills including mask clearing, regulator recovery and controlled ascents
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and efficient propulsion
• Plan dives with a computer or tables and dive with a buddy to 18 metres
• Manage common problems and follow safe-diving procedures

Prerequisites

• No prior experience or certification required
• Minimum age 10 (Junior) or 15
• Ability to swim and float comfortably (basic watermanship assessment)
• Diver medical questionnaire, with physician clearance if indicated

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Digital theory and first skills

   Work through SSI digital theory and begin confined-water skill practice in the calm shallows of the gulf.
2. Day2
   Confined water and assessment

   Complete the remaining confined-water sessions and the final knowledge assessment.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives 1 and 2

   Apply your skills on the first two open-water dives at a sheltered Gulf of Tadjoura reef.
4. Day4
   Open-water dives 3 and 4

   Complete the final two training dives to 18 metres and certify as an SSI Open Water Diver.
