Course overview

Earn the SSI Open Water Diver certification on Ambergris Caye and qualify to dive independently to 18 metres worldwide. After confined-water training you complete open-water dives on the Belize Barrier Reef off San Pedro, frequently sharing the water with turtles, rays and vibrant reef fish.

What you’ll learn

• Set up and use scuba equipment confidently
• Perform all essential safety and emergency skills
• Control buoyancy and maintain good trim
• Plan dives with a computer or tables
• Manage air and execute safe ascents
• Dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver)
• Able to swim and be comfortable in water
• No prior certification required
• Complete a diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Academics & confined water

   SSI digital academics and the first confined-water skill sessions in the calm shallows near San Pedro.
2. Day2
   Confined water & first dives

   Complete confined-water skills and the first open-water dives on the reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives

   Finish the remaining open-water dives at reef sites such as Hol Chan to complete certification.
