Course overview

Become a fully certified diver with the PADI Open Water Diver course on Ambergris Caye, qualifying you to dive independently to 18 metres anywhere in the world. You build skills in confined water then complete four open-water dives on the Belize Barrier Reef off San Pedro, often spotting turtles, rays and reef fish along the way.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble, check and use scuba equipment
• Perform all core safety and emergency skills
• Achieve neutral buoyancy and good trim
• Plan dives using tables or a computer
• Manage air supply and ascents safely
• Dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver)
• Able to swim and be comfortable in water
• No prior certification required
• Complete a diver medical questionnaire

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & confined water

   Knowledge development and the first confined-water skill sessions in the calm shallows near San Pedro.
2. Day2
   Confined water & first dives

   Finish confined-water skills and complete the first two open-water dives on the reef.
3. Day3
   Open-water dives & exam

   Complete the remaining open-water dives at reef sites like Hol Chan and pass the final exam.
