Course overview

Experience the reef after dark with the SSI Night Diving specialty at Khao Lak. Through training dives on the sheltered local reefs you master light use, night navigation and communication, then carry the skills to the Similan Islands where nocturnal marine life and excellent visibility reward the after-dark diver.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct safe night dives
• Handle primary and backup lights confidently
• Signal and communicate using torches
• Navigate and hold orientation in the dark
• Spot and identify nocturnal marine life
• Maintain buoyancy and buddy contact at night

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (junior) / 15 for full certification
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Comfortable buoyancy and basic navigation
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

   Study night-diving theory and complete guided night dives on a familiar local reef near Khao Lak, practising light use and navigation, then certify.
