Course overview

Experience the reef after sunset with the SSI Night Diving specialty on Maafushi, where the South Malé Atoll transforms once the lights go down. Diving the calm island house reef, you watch octopus, moray eels and hunting fish emerge while mastering light signalling and night navigation in warm 27-30°C water. You finish qualified to plan and enjoy night dives.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct night dives safely
• Use dive lights and hand signals to communicate after dark
• Navigate and keep orientation at night
• Stay with your buddy and manage entries and exits in low light
• Spot and identify nocturnal marine life
• Control buoyancy and gear by torchlight

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior) or 15
• SSI Open Water Diver (or qualifying equivalent)
• Comfortable with basic underwater navigation
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

1. Day1
   Academics & night dives

   Complete night-diving theory via the SSI app, then guided night dives on the calm house reef to practise signalling, navigation and night marine-life spotting.
