Course overview

Experience the reef after dark with the SSI Night Diving specialty in Hikkaduwa. As night falls on Sri Lanka's south coast, the coral gardens and house reef reveal octopuses, moray eels and lobster active only after sunset. Over three dives you build the skills to dive safely at night and finish certified as an SSI Night Diver.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct a safe night dive
• Operate primary and backup lights and give light signals
• Maintain orientation and buddy contact in darkness
• Manage entries, exits and buoyancy at night
• Navigate using lights and natural references after dark
• Recognise nocturnal marine life and behaviour

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Comfortable with buoyancy and basic navigation
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

1. Day1
   Night-diving skills

   Digital briefing on night procedures and light handling, then three dusk and night dives on Hikkaduwa's reefs to certify.
