Course overview

See the reef transform after dark with the PADI Night Diver specialty in Hikkaduwa. As the sun sets over Sri Lanka's south coast, the coral gardens and house reef come alive with hunting moray eels, octopuses, lobster and reef life rarely seen by day. Over three dives you learn to dive safely at night with a light and finish certified as a PADI Night Diver.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and organise a safe night dive
• Use a primary dive light, backup light and light signals
• Communicate with light and tank-tap signals after dark
• Navigate and maintain buddy contact in low visibility
• Enter, exit and control buoyancy in darkness
• Identify nocturnal marine life and night behaviour

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Comfortable with buoyancy and basic navigation
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Night-diving skills

   Briefing on night-diving procedures and light handling, followed by three dusk and night dives on Hikkaduwa's reefs to observe nocturnal life and complete certification.
