Course overview

Dive with more confidence and independence after the SSI Navigation specialty in Rasdhoo Atoll, where channel currents and drift sites reward divers who can read the reef and hold a course. You will combine compass and natural navigation on the atoll's clearly contoured reefs and finish certified to lead navigation dives and find your way back with ease.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate accurately using a compass and reciprocal headings
• Read natural references such as reef contours, sand ripples and depth
• Estimate distance with kick cycles and timing
• Mark and relocate a point of interest underwater
• Lead a buddy team on a planned navigation dive
• Adapt navigation to mild drift and current

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (junior) or 12
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent certification
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & navigation dives

   Compass and natural-navigation theory, then open-water dives running patterns and relocating points at a contoured reef such as Veligandu East, followed by digital certification.
