Course overview

SSI Navigation on the Perhentian Islands teaches you to find your way underwater with confidence using natural references, a compass and distance estimation. Worked on the calm reefs off Long Beach and Coral Bay, it adds a genuinely useful skill and contributes toward higher SSI recognition ratings.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate using natural underwater references
• Follow reciprocal and pattern courses with a compass
• Estimate distance with kick cycles and timing
• Mark and return to a point underwater
• Lead a buddy pair on a navigation plan

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• SSI Open Water Diver or qualifying certification
• Basic buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

1. Day1
   Theory and navigation dives

   Digital navigation theory followed by open-water dives practising references, compass patterns and distance estimation off Long Beach, ending in certification.
