Course overview

The PADI Underwater Navigator specialty on the Perhentian Islands sharpens your ability to find your way underwater using natural references, your compass and kick-cycle counts. Practised over the reefs and bays off Long Beach and Coral Bay, it turns guesswork into precise navigation and is a building block toward the Master Scuba Diver rating.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate accurately using natural references
• Use a compass to follow reciprocal and square patterns
• Estimate distance with kick cycles and timed swims
• Mark and relocate an underwater point
• Lead a buddy team on a planned navigation route

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or qualifying certification
• Basic comfort with buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

1. Day1
   Theory and navigation dives

   Navigation theory, then three open-water dives practising natural references, compass patterns and distance estimation off Long Beach, ending in certification.
