Course overview

Take charge of your own dives with the SSI Navigation specialty on Kadmat Island. You build compass and natural-navigation skills across the atoll's broad lagoon and reef slopes, where varied terrain and clear Lakshadweep water make it easy to practise plotting courses, running patterns and relocating sites.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate confidently with a compass and reciprocal headings
• Read natural references such as reef contours, ripples and slope
• Estimate distance using kick cycles and timed swims
• Run square and triangle patterns and return to your start
• Find and mark a submerged object or feature
• Plan and lead a navigation dive without a guide

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Basic buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & compass work

   Complete the SSI digital theory, then practise compass and natural navigation in the Kadmat lagoon.
2. Day2
   Patterns & relocation

   Run navigation patterns and relocate a marked feature on the reef slope before planning a dive yourself.
