Course overview

Stop relying on your guide and find your own way underwater with the PADI Underwater Navigator specialty on Kadmat Island. You sharpen natural navigation and compass skills on the atoll's reef slopes and across the broad lagoon, where varied terrain and good visibility make for ideal practice in plotting courses and relocating dive sites.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate accurately using a compass and reciprocal headings
• Use natural references such as reef contours, ripples and depth
• Estimate distance with kick cycles and timed swims
• Run patterns such as squares and triangles and return to a point
• Relocate a submerged object or site and mark it
• Plan and follow a navigation dive independently

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Basic buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & first navigation

   Cover navigation theory, then practise compass and natural navigation across the broad Kadmat lagoon.
2. Day2
   Patterns & relocation

   Run navigation patterns and relocate a marked point on the reef slope, then plan a dive independently.
