Course overview

Step up from guiding to teaching with the SSI Open Water Instructor programme on Bangaram Island, India's remote tropical-atoll resort in Lakshadweep. The calm lagoon, warm 27-30C water and uncrowded reefs give candidates a clean, controlled environment to perfect classroom, pool and open-water teaching before the SSI Instructor Evaluation. You complete the training authorised to certify your own students and carry the globally recognised SSI Open Water Instructor rating.

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Dive Guide / Divemaster or equivalent leadership rating from a recognised agency
• Certified diver for at least 6 months
• Logged-dive experience meeting SSI professional requirements (typically 100 dives by evaluation)
• Current first aid and CPR provider rating
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Teaching system orientation

   Introduction to SSI standards, the digital learning platform and your first academic presentations.
2. Day2
   Confined-water teaching

   Rehearse skill demonstrations and teaching in the calm shallows of the resort lagoon.
3. Day3
   Open-water teaching

   Run open-water teaching scenarios and skill circuits on Bangaram's reefs under evaluation.
4. Day4
   Standards and dive business

   Cover SSI standards, professional conduct, risk management and the business of diving.
5. Day5
   Science and skills assessment

   Complete dive-science exams and the in-water skills assessment to instructor level.
6. Day6
   Evaluation preparation

   Mock presentations and a full briefing for the SSI Instructor Evaluation.
