Course overview

Start your diving career with the SSI Divemaster rating in Trincomalee, the first professional level in the SSI system. Training across the reefs of Pigeon Island Marine Park and the deeper sites around Trincomalee bay, you develop the dive-leadership, supervision and problem-management skills to guide certified divers on Sri Lanka's east coast and worldwide.

What you’ll learn

• Guide and supervise certified divers on east-coast reefs
• Assist SSI professionals during training courses
• Plan and lead dives with thorough briefings and site mapping
• Demonstrate dive skills to a professional standard
• Handle diver problems and emergency scenarios
• Complete dive-theory and watermanship assessments

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent
• SSI Diver Stress & Rescue (or equivalent rescue rating)
• Valid first-aid / CPR provider rating
• At least 40 logged dives (60 recommended to certify)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & watermanship

   Digital academics through the DiveSSI app plus the watermanship and stamina assessments.
2. Day2
   Skills & leadership

   Demonstration-quality skills and dive-leadership workshops.
3. Day3
   Practical workshops

   Mapping, navigation and dive-management practice on Trincomalee sites.
4. Day4
   Internship begins

   Assist an SSI professional with students in the calm bays off Nilaveli.
5. Day5
   Guiding practice

   Lead certified divers on Pigeon Island reefs with full briefings.
6. Day6
   Final assessment

   Complete remaining workshops and exams and certify as an SSI Divemaster.
