Course overview

Earn your SSI Divemaster on Tioman and take your first professional step on an island whose sheltered bays and 20-plus reef sites inside a UNESCO marine park make for an ideal apprenticeship. You build dive-leadership ability and stamina guiding certified divers around the boulder reefs near Renggis Island and the swim-throughs of the north coast, finishing as a certified dive professional ready to supervise and guide.

What you’ll learn

• Guide and supervise certified divers safely on Tioman's reefs
• Demonstrate dive skills to professional demonstration quality
• Assist SSI professionals on training programmes
• Plan dives and assess local sites, conditions and currents
• Complete stamina, dive-leadership and rescue-assessment workshops
• Apply the science of diving across physics, physiology and equipment

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent
• SSI Diver Stress & Rescue (or equivalent) plus current CPR and first-aid training
• At least 40 logged dives to certify
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Orientation and theory

   Programme briefing and the start of the SSI Divemaster academic modules.
2. Day2
   Watermanship and stamina

   Complete the swim and watermanship assessments and refine demonstration-quality skills.
3. Day3
   Dive leadership

   Guide certified divers and deliver briefings at gentle sites such as Renggis Island.
4. Day4
   Mapping and rescue

   Run the site-assessment exercise and the rescue-skills assessment.
5. Day5
   Practical application

   Assist an SSI professional on a live programme and run dive-management scenarios.
6. Day6
   Exam and certification

   Complete the science-of-diving exam and final Divemaster sign-off.
