Course overview

Earn your first leadership rating with the SSI Dive Guide / Divemaster programme in Ambon on the Banda Sea, training amid world-famous critter and muck sites. Using the SSI digital learning system you develop guiding, briefing and supervision skills around sites like the Twilight Zone and Coral Gardens, finishing certified to lead certified divers and support instructors.

What you’ll learn

• Guide and supervise certified divers safely as a dive professional
• Demonstrate diving skills to a professional standard
• Plan and deliver thorough dive briefings and site orientations
• Map dive sites and manage groups in varied conditions
• Assist instructors with training programmes
• Apply dive theory and the SSI Total Diving System to real supervision

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 18
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent certification
• SSI Stress & Rescue (or recognised rescue certification)
• Current React Right / first-aid and CPR provider credential
• Specialty certifications and around 40 logged dives to begin (rising toward professional minimums to certify)
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Orientation & watermanship

   Programme briefing, MySSI academic setup and the stamina/watermanship assessments.
2. Day2
   Skill demonstration

   Polish core skills to professional demonstration quality in sheltered Ambon Bay.
3. Day3
   Dive theory

   Complete the SSI dive-theory modules on physics, physiology and equipment.
4. Day4
   Mapping & management

   Map a local site such as the Coral Gardens and run dive-management scenarios.
5. Day5
   Internship

   Support an instructor with real students in confined water and on local reefs.
6. Day6
   Assessment & certification

   Finish practical assessments, debrief and register as an SSI professional.
