Course overview

Take your first underwater breaths with the SSI Try Scuba experience at Khao Lak, the launch point for Similan Islands diving. Guided closely by an SSI professional, you complete a pool or confined-water session and an open-water dive to around 12 metres on a sheltered reef, a relaxed introduction with no certification prerequisites.

What you’ll learn

• Breathe naturally underwater on scuba
• Equalise ears and clear the mask
• Recover the regulator and control basic buoyancy
• Use simple underwater hand signals
• Stay with your guide on a shallow reef dive
• Grasp the basic rules of safe diving

Prerequisites

• No experience or swimming certification required
• Minimum age 10
• Reasonable health (medical questionnaire required)
• Comfortable being in the water
