Course overview

Take your first breaths underwater with the SSI Try Scuba experience on Maafushi, on the island's calm, shallow house reef in the South Malé Atoll. Guided one-on-one by an SSI professional, you practise a few basic skills then float over coral and reef fish in warm 27-30°C water, with no experience or certification needed. It is the simplest way to discover whether diving is for you.

What you’ll learn

• Breathe naturally underwater on scuba equipment
• Equalise and clear your mask
• Recover and clear your regulator
• Move gently and stay balanced underwater
• Use basic underwater hand signals
• Explore the reef safely with an instructor beside you

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• No experience or swimming certification required
• In reasonable health (a brief medical questionnaire applies)
• Comfortable being in the water
