The SSI Deep Diving specialty extends your range to the recreational limit of 40 metres, unlocking the deeper rocky reefs and pinnacles south of Nilaveli around Trincomalee. Over your training dives near Swami Rock you learn to plan deep dives, manage your gas and recognise narcosis on sandy and rocky bottoms where big schools of barracuda and trevally gather and sting and electric rays cruise past.
SSI Deep Diving counts toward the SSI Specialty Diver and Master Diver ratings and pairs well with SSI Enriched Air Nitrox for safer, longer time at depth. It extends your certified limit to the recreational maximum of 40 metres. Academics are delivered digitally through the DiveSSI app.
Deep training uses the rocky reefs and pinnacles south of Nilaveli toward Swami Rock, where the bottom falls away over sand and rock to around 30m and beyond, and schools of barracuda and trevally gather alongside sting and electric rays. Conditions are best during the calm May-to-September window, with shoulder months of April and October still diveable.
