Course overview

Take your first real step into certified diving with the SSI Basic Diver program at Netrani Island on Karnataka's Murdeshwar coast. This short course teaches the fundamental scuba skills and theory, then puts them into practice on a shallow, instructor-led dive over the island's reef. It is an ideal bridge between a one-off try-dive and the full SSI Open Water Diver certification.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble and use basic scuba equipment
• Breathe, equalise and clear your mask with confidence
• Recover a regulator and manage your buoyancy
• Understand core safety rules and hand signals
• Complete supervised dives on Netrani's shallow reef

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• No experience or swimming certification required
• Reasonable physical health with a brief medical questionnaire
• Medical clearance for any heart, lung or asthma conditions

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & skills

   Cover basic scuba theory and safety, then practise core skills in shallow water with your instructor.
2. Day2
   Reef dive

   Apply your skills on a supervised shallow dive over Netrani's reef and complete the program.
