Course overview

Take a confident first step toward certification with the SSI Basic Diver programme in Ambon on the Banda Sea. Sitting between a try-dive and full Open Water, it teaches core scuba skills and includes supervised dives to 12 metres over Ambon Bay's gentle reefs — credit you can roll straight into the SSI Open Water Diver course.

What you’ll learn

• Breathe and move comfortably underwater on scuba
• Perform key safety skills such as mask clearing and regulator recovery
• Manage basic buoyancy and equalisation
• Use hand signals and dive with a buddy and guide
• Understand basic equipment and dive planning
• Dive to a maximum of 12 metres under supervision

Prerequisites

• No prior experience or swimming certification required
• Minimum age 10
• Comfortable in the water
• Complete a medical questionnaire (physician sign-off if needed)

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Skills & first dive

   Cover the basics and practise core skills in shallow water, then make a supervised open-water dive in calm Ambon Bay.
2. Day2
   Second dive & wrap-up

   Make a further supervised dive to a maximum of 12 metres and review your progress, with credit toward Open Water.
