Course overview

Begin your diving journey with the SSI Basic Diver certification on Ambergris Caye, a stepping-stone course on the Belize Barrier Reef. You learn the essential skills and complete supervised open-water dives in the clear, calm water off San Pedro, building the foundation to progress toward Open Water Diver.

What you’ll learn

• Assemble and use basic scuba equipment
• Breathe and move comfortably underwater
• Clear a mask and recover a regulator
• Manage simple buoyancy and descents
• Communicate with standard hand signals
• Dive within shallow recreational limits under supervision

• No prior certification required
