Course overview

Take your diving deeper with the SSI Advanced Adventurer course in Cairns and unlock the outer Great Barrier Reef's bigger sites. Across five adventure dives, including a Deep dive to as much as 30 metres and a Navigation dive, you sample SSI specialty areas while building skill at reefs such as Flynn, Milln and Thetford. It is the recognised intermediate step toward Diver Stress & Rescue and the Divemaster pathway.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and complete a Deep dive to recreational limits of up to 30 metres
• Navigate underwater using natural references and a compass
• Sample five SSI specialty areas to discover what you enjoy most
• Manage gas and time across deeper, longer reef dives
• Improve buoyancy, trim and air consumption on the outer reef
• Build dive-planning confidence on repetitive reef trips

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior) or 15
• SSI Open Water Diver or a qualifying entry-level certification
• Basic comfort and watermanship in open water
• Diver medical clearance signed where any health condition applies

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Deep and navigation dives

   Complete the Deep adventure dive to up to 30 metres and the Navigation dive at an outer reef site such as Flynn or Milln Reef.
2. Day2
   Specialty sampler and certification

   Complete three more adventure dives from SSI specialty areas such as Perfect Buoyancy, Fish Identification or Night, then certify as an Advanced Adventurer.
