Course overview

The PADI Night Diver specialty teaches you to dive safely after dark, when Zanzibar's reefs transform and nocturnal life emerges. Sites near the Pange sand bank and the Stone Town coral gardens come alive at night with hunting shrimps, crabs, squid, moray eels and colour-flashing critters.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct night dives with proper procedures
• Use primary and backup dive lights and signalling
• Communicate with light signals after dark
• Navigate and maintain buoyancy in low visibility
• Identify and observe nocturnal marine life
• Manage buddy contact and orientation at night

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12 (Junior)
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   After dark

   Theory and light-handling briefing, then three night dives across two or three evenings near Pange or the Stone Town gardens, practising signalling, navigation and critter spotting to certify.
