The PADI Night Diver specialty reveals a different side of Trincomalee's reefs after dark, when hunting predators emerge and corals open their polyps. Over three night dives off Nilaveli you learn to use lights, communicate with signals and navigate in the dark, often encountering nocturnal life like crabs, lobsters and resting reef fish on the Pigeon Island reefs.
PADI Night Diver counts toward the Master Scuba Diver rating and can credit toward the Advanced Open Water course. Backup lights and night-specific procedures are emphasised throughout.
Night dives are made on the sheltered Nilaveli reefs and around Pigeon Island, where calm seas during the the calm May-to-September window, with shoulder months of April and October still diveable and easy shore or short-boat access make for relaxed after-dark diving.
