Course overview

Discover a whole new reef after dark with the PADI Night Diver specialty at Sipadan, descending onto the macro reefs off Mabul as nocturnal life takes over. You learn light handling, navigation and communication while spotting hunting moray eels, sleeping turtles, flamboyant cuttlefish and the eyeshine of shrimp and crabs. Night diving reveals the muck-diving magic of this region in an entirely different light.

What you’ll learn

• Plan and conduct safe night dives
• Use a primary and backup dive light effectively
• Communicate with light signals after dark
• Navigate and maintain orientation at night
• Enter, exit and stay with your buddy in low light
• Identify nocturnal marine life and behaviour

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 12
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Comfortable buoyancy and basic navigation
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

   Night dives

   Briefing and three night dives on the Mabul reef covering light use, signalling, night navigation and nocturnal life spotting, finishing with certification.
