Course overview

Sharpen one of diving's most useful skills with the PADI Underwater Navigator specialty on the reefs of Mauritius's west coast. Diving from Flic-en-Flac on sites like Aquarium, you master compass use, natural navigation and distance estimation so you can find your way back to the boat with confidence. You finish certified and far more self-reliant as a dive buddy.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate accurately using a compass
• Use natural references such as reef contours and ripples
• Estimate distance with kick cycles and timed swims
• Run reciprocal and pattern courses underwater
• Mark and relocate a specific underwater point
• Lead a navigated dive for a buddy team

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10 (Junior) or 15 for the full certification
• PADI Open Water Diver or qualifying certification
• Comfortable with basic buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician
