Course overview

Stop relying on your guide and find your own way underwater with the PADI Underwater Navigator specialty in Malta and Gozo. On the islands' clear, current-light reefs you master compass headings, natural references and distance estimation, skills that pay off on every wreck and reef dive here. You finish certified as a PADI Underwater Navigator.

What you’ll learn

• Navigate accurately with a compass on set headings
• Use natural references to find your way and return to start
• Estimate distance by kick cycles and timing
• Follow patterns such as squares and reciprocal courses
• Mark and relocate an underwater point of interest
• Plan a navigation dive and recover when disoriented

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

   Theory plus three dives at a clear Cirkewwa or Gozo reef practising compass headings, natural references, distance estimation and patterns, then certification.
