Course overview

Build the confidence to respond to a diving or everyday emergency with the Emergency First Response course on Kadmat Island. This non-diving, classroom-based programme teaches primary and secondary care to the same standards used worldwide, and it satisfies the first-aid prerequisite for the PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster ratings you may pursue on the atoll.

What you’ll learn

• Perform CPR and primary care for a non-responsive patient
• Manage serious bleeding, shock and spinal injury
• Use a barrier device and, where available, an automated external defibrillator
• Deliver secondary care for non-life-threatening injuries and illness
• Conduct a scene assessment and a patient evaluation
• Build the confidence to act in a real emergency

Prerequisites

• No prior experience or certification required
• Open to non-divers and divers alike
• No minimum age for general participation (ratings have their own minimums)
• Willingness to practise CPR and first-aid skills on a manikin

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Primary & secondary care

   Classroom session covering CPR, bleeding and shock management, then secondary care, finishing with scenario practice and assessment. No water work involved.
