Course overview

Try scuba for the first time with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience at Kovalam, breathing underwater in the warm Arabian Sea under the one-to-one care of a PADI professional. After a short briefing and confined-water practice you make a guided dive over the Kovalam reef to around 12 metres. It is the easiest way to find out whether diving is for you, with no certification required.

What you’ll learn

• Breathe comfortably underwater using scuba equipment
• Clear your mask and recover your regulator
• Equalise and move gently while neutrally buoyant
• Understand basic safety rules and hand signals
• Enjoy a guided reef dive in the Arabian Sea

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 10
• No diving experience or certification required
• No swimming certification required
• Reasonable health; a short medical questionnaire is completed beforehand

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Briefing and confined practice

   Meet your instructor, learn the basics and practise breathing and key skills in shallow water.
2. Day1
   Guided reef dive

   Make a supervised dive to around 12 metres over the Kovalam reef, looking for reef fish, octopus and the occasional turtle.
