Try breathing underwater for the first time with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience on Koh Tao, the world's most popular place to learn. After a short briefing and confined-water practice you make a guided open-water dive to around 12 metres at a calm, shallow reef such as Japanese Gardens, meeting clownfish, parrotfish and curious reef life.
PADI Discover Scuba Diving is an introductory experience, not a certification. Skills you complete can often credit toward the PADI Open Water Diver course if you decide to continue - and Koh Tao is famously the cheapest place in the world to do so.
First dives take place at Koh Tao's sheltered, shallow reefs such as Japanese Gardens and Mango Bay, where calm 28-30C water and easy entries suit complete beginners. Expect clownfish, parrotfish and butterflyfish; conditions are best March to May.
