About reef shrimp

Reef shrimp diversity is dazzling — beyond the cleaner shrimp (covered separately) there are emperor shrimp on Spanish dancers, bumblebee shrimp inside sea cucumbers, anemone shrimp hosted by anemones, sexy shrimp doing their famous shimmy dance, and harlequin shrimp that hunt starfish in pairs.

Most live in obligate commensal partnerships with a specific host — find the host, find the shrimp. Local guides know specific anemones and sponges that host specific shrimp populations.

Lembeh, Anilao, Bali, Andaman, Komodo. Every macro dive yields 5–10 shrimp species if your eye is trained.
