The jewel of Coron — best-preserved hull in the bay, advanced wreck dive.
Irako was a refrigerated provision and supply ship for the Imperial Japanese Navy, built in 1937 (147 m). She was sunk on 24 September 1944 alongside the rest of the Coron fleet and is widely considered the best-preserved hull in the bay — 'the jewel of Coron.'
She lies upright at 33–42 m. Strong currents are possible. Penetration into the cargo holds and engine room is excellent for trained divers. Marine life is dense — schools of jacks, large groupers, occasional reef sharks. The bridge area is particularly atmospheric.
Advanced Open Water + Wreck specialty are essentials; Tec or extended-range divers get the most out of her. Liveaboards and serious day operators run her — book ahead, conditions and currents are checked daily.
