Koh Tao's most-trained wreck — a WWII US landing craft scuttled as a Thai Navy artificial reef.
HTMS Sattakut began life in 1944 as the US Navy infantry landing craft USS LCI(L)-736. After the war she was transferred to the Royal Thai Navy and eventually intentionally scuttled at Hin Pee Wee, Koh Tao, on 18 June 2011 to create an artificial reef.
She sits upright on the sand. Deck at 18 m, seabed at 30 m. Two large deck guns are intact. Penetration into the bridge and cargo holds is straightforward with proper training. Schooling jacks, batfish, big-eye trevally and the occasional whale shark in season.
Sattakut is the most-used training wreck for the Wreck Diving specialty in Thailand — every Koh Tao dive shop runs it. Advanced Open Water + Wreck specialty for penetration; AOW alone for external swims.
