Course overview

Discover the south-coast shipwrecks of Sri Lanka with the SSI Wreck Diving specialty in Hikkaduwa, where historic vessels rest at around 18 to 30 metres close to shore. Over four dives you learn to survey wrecks, plan safe limits and handle guide lines on real wreck sites. You finish certified as an SSI Wreck Diver, ready to explore wrecks safely.

What you’ll learn

• Survey, map and assess a shipwreck
• Plan wreck dives within safe depth and air limits
• Handle reels, lines and reference points
• Recognise and avoid wreck-diving hazards
• Use redundant lighting and backup equipment
• Refine buoyancy and finning around delicate structure

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent open-water experience
• Good buoyancy control
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Theory & first wreck dives

   Digital wreck-diving academics, planning and two dives surveying a Hikkaduwa wreck.
2. Day2
   Mapping & line work

   Two further dives mapping the wreck and practising line work and hazard avoidance to complete certification.
