Course overview

Add wreck diving to your skill set with the SSI Wreck Diving specialty out of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. You learn survey, mapping and safe line-handling techniques transferable to wrecks worldwide, with foundation dives on the dramatic volcanic walls, overhangs and drop-offs of the Galapagos. You earn the SSI Wreck Diving certification on completion.

What you’ll learn

• Plan safe wreck dives within recreational depth limits
• Survey and sketch a wreck or large submerged structure
• Use a reel and guideline for orientation and overhead awareness
• Maintain precise buoyancy and trim to avoid silting
• Manage gas and lighting for low-visibility environments

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent
• Comfortable to a depth of 30 metres
• Diver medical clearance signed by a physician

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day1
   Survey & mapping

   Wreck theory plus dives focused on external survey, mapping and reel work at a local Santa Cruz site.
2. Day2
   Lines & control

   Further dives applying guideline technique, buoyancy and silt management to finish the certification.
